the last Saturday nite of August

Well, the last sat. nite of the summer. The hooligans have been in school for a couple of weeks now and it is the big labor day weekend. No plans for this weekend, church, hiking with the son, and going to a concert with the girls. Along time ago, in a previous life it would probably a fair bet I'd be at the beach, or partying with the crazy people that I would hang with. I've said it before, I don't really miss those time, well maybe a bit.The beer, and Loud music. Ah the music, seems that the time I spent in the USAF I didn't need a T.V., if someone had a t.v. it was on MTV or a game. My youngest daughter found an old photo album, and made the comment that I was a wild man back then. Can't remember that...yeah right!!! My youthful days were fun, and so is this phase of this life here on this planet we so lovingly call earth. Well it's B'day cake for me youngest girl, until next time.

thoughts from the inside of the belly of the beast (soon to be on the outside)

Well, guess it is going to be a rough ride for us ramp rats here in the land of Elvis. it has been a wild and weird trip since uncle dougie sold us out. Like we had a say in the "merger" between Northworst and Delta. I may only be a lowly part time ramper, but I have been with this flying sideshow for too long.18 years with these theiving thugs. I've seen a lot of good people lose a lot. We have lost so much in the last 15 years, the union contracts have gone to the dogs. The loss of vaction days, sick pay, paid holidays, much more. Need we lose anything else? The probable end to this whole freak show will be that horrid word none of us airline workers want to hear, outsourcing. Sure, the upper miss management team swears that Memphis will not change, I think the head Dude needs to come clean and just tell us to start looking for other employment. Can we remember what happened to the last Delta workers here in Memphis? Does McD's have a 401 plan?

Thursday nite rants

Okay, for reasons unknown to me I just lost my whole post. So I will try and remember what I was rambling on about.....Now back to what it was about. Most of my Thursday nights when I was a lot younger (my Air Force days), was filled with beer and music. Staying up until the Sun rose was a weekly event. It was the start of the weekend, a pregame warm up to lost weekends of drinking, laughing and bitching about the lifers. Now 20 plus years later it is a whole different ball game. Not that I want to go back to those days. Thursdays are now filled with me sitting here, reading a weeks worth of e-mails, catching up on my Angels, best record in Baseball and reading blogs. I used to think blogs were kind of weird, but I am learning that it is a release. I can ramble on, and if no one reads this...Oh Well, no lost sleep for me. Deep down I hope someone out there in cyberspace reads this rant.Any how, it is way past this old man's bed time. I need my beauty sleep, not that it will help. Good night and thanks for all the fish....

Last night of freedom, the Hooligans are restless

Just finished sunday dinner. It was grilled chicken, baked potato, and brussel sprouts. When I was a kid my mother tried to make me eat those little buggers. Hated them way back then. Now, can't seem to get enough.
The hooligans are getting ready for school. the two oldest are fighting over who does more chores. It is a tie, to me they don't do enough. My youngest is getting cleaned up.He seems to be bummed out about the whole thing.Summer flew by,it just was May. School was over and the whole summer was there out in front of the youngsters, now it is over. Glad I don't have that to worry about the first day of school, new clothes, new pencils, all new supplies. Man that is rough for a 10 year old.Well hope this year isn't too rough on the hooligans. This is my first blog, so I hope it isn't too bad,or boring...

Happy 39th.

Earlier today I watched Woodstock the movie on VH1. If you didn't know this weekend marks the 39th. Anniversary of the Event. I was 13 and living in Colorado Springs back in 1969, so needless to say I didn't make it to New York that year. As I sat there on the couch drinking sweet tea and munching chips the thought of thousands of "hippies" listening to all those groups for free must of been a trip.
The summer of 1969 for me was full of early morning neighborhood baseball games, riding bikes to the 7/11 later for 25 cent bottles of Dr. Pepper, and riding bikes until the street lights came on. Man that was that long ago, seems like yesterday. As Jerry sings, What a long strange trip it has been...
